Bunny Does Her Makeup
This piece consists of deconstructed magazines layered on top of recycled cardboard. Vibrant acrylic paint frames the subject. The orange color sets off the background as a contrasting color.
Media: Acrylic and magazine on cardboard
I created this piece in 2017 for my art class. I had no particular direction, and there was no subject that I wished to comment on. My only goal was to experiment with unconventional materials. I found inspiration in materials and images I saw in my everyday life. The objects illustrated on the abstract desk are replicas of the things I brought to class. Often I would do my makeup in art class, my first class of the day. I would carry my makeup in a little backpack, the same bag modeled in this piece. The bunny serves as a stand-in for me. I chose to replace myself with the bunny because I wanted to follow the theme of including things I see every day. I often see bunnies run past my window in the spring and the summer.
The outline
To create a comprehensive outline, I drew the desk first to help me identify where to place other objects. Then I layered the newspaper in the shape I desired.
